Over the past two weeks, Anthropic has rolled out a series of dense upgrades to the Claude free plan:

Why This Is a Signal
Anthropic’s strategy shift is clear: free users are no longer a feature-limited trial version, but a lightweight entry point to the full product.
This is rare in the AI industry. Most competitors (including OpenAI and Google) have clear functional ceilings for their free plans. Anthropic goes the opposite way — free users can create files, connect Gmail, install Skills, and have memory. The only differences are model ceiling and usage quotas.
